The Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools are former students, teachers, and community members united by a shared history and a common goal: to protect and preserve the traditions, community life, and rich heritage of Gillespie County’s country schools for generations to come. Read more....

Through preservation, partnership, and community engagement, the Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools work to ensure these historic buildings remain meaningful and accessible.
- Preserve and maintain historic country school buildings across Gillespie County
- Partner with the county to support preservation efforts through fundraising and volunteer support
- Promote the use of restored schools as community and educational gathering spaces
Schools and Churches
The country schools and churches featured in this section reflect the rich educational and community history of Gillespie County. This section includes twelve historic country schools owned by Gillespie County and loaned to the Friends for care, maintenance, and public use, along with four additional schools that are maintained independently by their respective caretakers. Also included are four historic Lutheran churches located in close proximity to several of the schools, highlighting the close connection between education, faith, and community life in rural areas.
