The Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools

🏫 2026 Country School Open Houses & Public Events

All open houses and events listed here are open to the public, and we invite you to experience the charm and history of Gillespie County’s rural one-room schools.

Throughout the year, many of these historic schoolhouses open their doors for special events and community gatherings. During these times, visitors can step inside the buildings, explore the grounds, and learn about the important role these schools played in shaping our area's heritage.

Even when no official open house is scheduled, many school properties remain accessible to visitors who wish to enjoy the grounds. These peaceful settings provide wonderful opportunities for photography, quiet walks, bird watching, and exploring the scenic Texas Hill Country landscape.

If the school buildings are closed during your visit, take a moment to peek through the windows and imagine what school life once looked like in these historic classrooms. And if a private event is underway, we kindly ask that you respect the gathering and avoid interrupting the occasion.

We hope these schools inspire you to discover more about the people, stories, and traditions that helped shape Fredericksburg and Gillespie County’s rich German heritage.
